Halo 4 SR and Specializations FAQ

Of all of the new features in Halo 4, the leveling system seems to generate the most confusion. This page attempts to explain all of that. If there is anything else unclear about the Spartan Rank system, let me know in the comments.

What do specializations have to offer?

Specializations provide several perks. It provides you with a new armor, with an alternate skin, some new foreground emblems, a background emblem, a weapon skin, and (most importantly) a new Tactical Package or Support Upgrade. What you get is based entirely on which specialization you pick, so choose wisely. A guide to choosing a specialization is planned.

How are the levels distributed? How many levels are there?

There are 50 normal Spartan Ranks, followed by sets of 10 for each specialization. Because there are 8 specializations, there are 130 SRs.

I've reached SR50, but now I'm not leveling up. What do I need to do now?

After you reach SR50, it's time to pick a specialization. You can access a list of selectable specializations from the following navigation: Press Start, then press up and select "Specializations." The list will then be displayed. Pick one, and you'll continue to SR51. You have to repeat this process every 10 levels (SR60,SR70,etc.) to keep leveling up. A guide to choosing a specialization is planned.

I selected a specialization, but now all of the others in the list are locked. How do I switch?

Once you have chosen a specialization, you must stick with it for the next 10 levels. For example, if you chose one at SR50, you cannot choose another until SR60.

I see that specializations offer special perks, such as stability and faster assassinations. Do they become standard to my Spartan? Do they take up any slots in my custom loadouts?

These special perks from your specializations take up a slot in your Support Package or Tactical Package slots, depending on which mod you get. For example, The Wetwork Stealth armor mod is a Support Upgrade.

I'm new to specializations. What should I choose first?

I recommend the Pioneer. This specialization eventually grants you access to the Fast Track Tactical Package, which allows you to gain 20% bonus XP whenever it's active.
